Buck-passing at Sri Lanka Cricket

198

It is apparent that none at Sri Lanka Cricket will be held responsible for the international disgrace in the aftermath of the rejection of the world’s best spinner Rangana Herath from the Champions Trophy.

The buck is already being passed around with those responsible claiming they were ignorant to the presence of Herath in the Kandurata Maroons team which qualified for the Champions League in India.

Herath was in the Uthura Yellows squad which could not qualify but was selected into the Kandurata Maroons squad which the Indians detected and declared him out of the tournament.

To make matters worse Sri Lanka Cricket, to cover up the disgrace, issued a statement saying the Indian tournament organizers refused to believe that Herath was in the original Kandurata Maroons squad.

Champions League organizers had the names of the players in all four Sri Lanka teams, Kandurata Maroons, Uthura Yellows, Ruhuna Reds and Basnahira Greens, that played in a Quadrangular to qualify for the Champions League.

Herath’s name was in the Uthura Yellows squad and not the Kandurata Maroons squad which the Indians detected in a case of blatant cheating by Sri Lanka Cricket which gave the tour party a send-off usually reserved for national teams.

Analysts contend the disgrace brought on was enough for heads to roll in any other country as the player concerned was none other than the best spinner currently in world cricket.
