Afeel returning from injury for the crucial match against Army SC had Mohamed Issadeen in his pocket throughout the game. The youngster with his pace and strength kept out the marauding Army attacks while keeping the shape of the new formation of Colombo FC.
A clean sheet and a composed defensive performance at the back gives Hakeem a worthy spot in the Team of the Week. Hakeem seems to be finding form in the business stage of the Super 8’s which bodes well with Renown’s title ambitions.
Back to back appearances for the Blue Star utility man. In a match where championship hopes hung in the balance Ali’s performance at the back resulted in a clean sheet and he was a threat in dead-ball situations.
Head Coach Mohamed Roomy’s go to man in crunch matches, Niran Kanishka once again proved why he is an invaluable asset to the reigning champs. He was an ever present figure up and down the field in attack and defense against Army. He was instrumental in shutting down Army’s in-form Madushan De Silva and Sajith Kumara.
The enforcer once again makes the TOTW with a commanding performance from the midfield. His strength and ball control skills were a treat to watch while emerging as a constant goal scorer with his free-kick goal during the week.
Chathuranga was a standout in a rather scrappy game between Navy and Air Force, where both sides were searching for their first win in the Super 8’s. The never tiring Chathuranga provided the link between defense and attack.
The veteran Army midfielder was a live-wire in a match Army needed a win to keep them in the title hunt. Though they failed, the former Sri Lanka midfielder showed he still has what it takes to be amongst the best, creating a few headaches for the Colombo FC defense.
Fazal was one of the two front men for Renown who was outstanding in the Solid SC 4-0 demolition with a goal and an assist.
Jibola again provided the much needed goal from a difficult angle and secured the three points for the Kalutara lads.
The former Hameed Al Husseinie College player, much like Fazal, scored a goal and an assist in a Man of the Match performance against Solid SC. This was the 20 year old’s first goal for the Kotahena club in just his 2nd game.
