Sri Lanka have been dealt a triple injury blow as Angelo Mathews (Ankle & Hamstring) will be returning home alongside Nuwan Pradeep (wrist) and Dhanushka Gunathilaka (back).

Angelo Mathews, will take no further part in the South African tour due to an injury sustained in the second T20I yesterday (January 22). Mathews picked up the injury in the penultimate over of Sri Lanka’s chase of 113; as he rushed to the crease to get to the striker’s end, Mathews put in a dive to beat the throw from backward point and in attempting to do so, the Sri Lanka captain twisted his ankle as he fell awkwardly on the ground.

Meanwhile Nuwan Pradeep will also take no further part in the tour as he sustained a fracture in his hand in an attempt to take a catch in the opening T20I on Friday night.

Injury concerns continue with Dhanushka Gunathilaka, who is also like to return home as he sustained a back injury. He was due to open the batting in the first T20I but was hampered by a back injury and sat out of the second T20I as well.

Replacements for the trio have not been named but sources suggest that Kusal Janith Perera will be heading back to the Rainbow nation in place of Gunathilake while Dinesh Chandimal will stand in as captain in the final T20I on Wednesday (January 25). Rumour has it that Upul Tharanga will be named as the ODI captain for the 5 ODIs scheduled to begin on the 28th of January.
