South Africa U19’s thrashed the Sri Lanka U19’s to make it two out of two in the tri series which also involves the Zimbabwe U19’s.
The Proteas skipper Willem Mulder won the toss and decided to bat first in Cape Town but were reduced to two for 25 in the 7th over. Jesse Christensen and Raynard Van Tonder got together from there on and were involved in a brilliant 141 run partnership for the 3rd wicket while the former went on to complete a superb century 5 sixes and 5 fours.
Van Tonder ended with 79 runs off 87 balls while Mulder gave good impetus to the innings making 44 runs off 36 balls including two sixes. Right arm quick Nipun Ransika was the best bowler for Sri Lanka picking up three scalps while Jehan Daniel picked up two wickets conceding 59 runs off his eight overs as the home team racked up a competitive 283/6.
In reply, the Sri Lankans lost wickets at regular intervals as they were bowled out in the 41st over. Hasitha Boyagoda and Rashmika Dilshan were the only batsmen to pass the 20 run mark as the rest of the batting folded up for 155.
The Proteas skipper completed a good all round performance as he picked up three wickets with his seam ups following his efforts with the bat. 17 year old Leg spinner Jade de Klerk also picked three wickets conceding just 28 runs in 8.5 overs.
Christensen was named man of the match for his efforts with the bat. The Sri Lankan U19’s will take on the Zimbabwe U19’s in the third game of the tournament tomorrow(16) in Cape Town.
