DS Senanayake College took control in their Singer-Cup traditional game against Nalanda College which was played today at Nalanda grounds.
The visitors won the toss and opted to bat first as they dismissed for a below par 163 inside 45 overs. Vihan Gunasekara and Torin Pitigala both scored 25 runs each, while Kalana Perera picked up a 3 wicket haul for the hosts.
In reply, the Nalandians got knocked out for a hapless 116 in 28 overs as left-arm spinner Muditha Lakshan was almost unplayable as he grabbed 7 wickets for 30 runs.
The visitors batting second were 31 for 3 at stumps with Kalana Perera ending the day with two wickets.
Match will continue tomorrow for day two.

Dharmaraja College, Kandy held on to a draw against St. Peter’s College, Colombo in their Singer-Cup group A encounter which concluded today in Kandy.
The Peterites went on to score 275 runs for 5 wickets in 67.5 overs as they declared their first innings hoping to wrap up an outright win. Skipper Lakshina Rodrigo made an unbeaten 77 runs and ably supported by Salith Fernando as he stroked 78 to put up a solid first innings lead. Deshan Gunasinghe picked up 2 wickets for the hosts.
The home team made only 168 in the first innings, and struggled once again but managed to survive in the second innings as they finished on 126 for 8 in 60 overs. Off-spinner Chathura Obeysekara claimed 3 wickets as Deshan Gunasinghe chipped in with 35 for the lads from Kandy.

Dilan Chathuranga scored a stunning century as St. Benedict’s College managed to secure a first innings win against Mahinda College, Galle in their group B game which ended today at Galle International Stadium.
Chasing a victory target of 227, the visitors racked up 244 for 6 in 91 overs as they cruised to a first innings win. Dilan Chathuranga guided the visitors with an unbeaten century while Chamindu Wijesinghe, Dulantha Levin and Shehan Fernando made useful 30s.
