India’s pace spearhead Mohammed Shami will miss the One-Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) series against England early next year due to his right-knee injury. Shami, who got hurt during the third Test against England and was forced to pull out of the Test series, will be out of action for more than a month.

The 26-year-old pacer had suffered a left-knee injury in the past and is now recovering from an injury to his right knee which is still sore.

It is learnt that Shami’s place in the ODI team could go to Ishant Sharma. The selectors could also discuss the name of Ashish Nehra, who told the Times Of India (TOI) recently that he wants to continue playing T20 cricket for India.

The spate of injuries to key players could put the national selectors in a spot of bother to select the openers for the ODIs against England. With Ajinkya Rahane recovering from injury and hoping to be fit for the series, the selectors could bring back Shikhar Dhawan or pick triple centurion Karun Nair as injured Rohit Sharma’s replacement.
