Renown Coach Mohamed Amanulla showed his frustration and blasted the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) for the handling of players who got injured while on National duty.
He was especially talking on behalf of his Renown SC player Afam Akram, who injured his knee during the International Friendly against Cambodia on the 9th of October.
“He (Afam) was seriously injured and after he came to Sri Lanka it took the Federation two weeks to arrange a scan and after that there was again nothing,” a disappointed Amanullah added.
“The FFSL say they take care of the players and is this how they do it?” he asked.
Before the tour Gnanaruban Vinoth injured his knee during practice while Dilip Peiris too injured his knee during a training session the day before the Cambodia match. Afam Akram got injured just minutes into his International debut in the 2nd half. Afam Akram and Dilip Peiris represented Sri Lanka U19 last year and are highly rated future stars.
When contacted by ThePapare.com Mohamed Ramiz, the Manager of the Sri Lanka National Team said;
“We did the scans and according to the doctor they wanted a second opinion on Afam’s injury while the other two needs surgery.”
This was around the 3rd or 4th week of October and another 3 weeks went by without any surgery done on the players.
ThePapare.com contacted the CEO of the FFSL U.L.Jaswar and this was what he had to say;
“Players have insurance but in the initial process of admitting to hospital and doing the scans no proper insurance procedures were followed and hence the delay. But we have made arrangements to do the surgeries this week.”
It is clear that the fault has been from the FFSL end and it was ultimately the injured players who had to suffer for almost two months without the important surgeries.
