The 40th edition of the Mercantile Hockey Association Annual Men’s Seven-a-side tournament will take place on the 20th November 2016 at the P. Sarawanamuthu Grounds with the active participation of over 20 teams.
Organised by the Mercantile Hockey Association for the 40th successive occasion, the sevens tournament will be played in five divisions with each division having its respective silverware. The Division A title will have the likes of Commercial Bank ‘A’, Hatton National Bank ‘A’ and the Sampath Bank ‘A’ team, who will fight for the Dennis De Rosayro trophy, while the runner-up will be awarded the Mercantile H. A. trophy.
The other groups are also expected to have competitive action with a few of the top corporate conglomerates signing up. The sevens will be graced by Mr Bryan Baptist who is the Patron of the Mercantile Hockey Association.
Last year’s ‘A’ division winners were Hatton National Bank while the ‘B’ division title was taken by AIA Insurance Lanka.
Peoples Leasing and Finance PLC, MAS Holdings and Hilton Colombo will jointly sponsor the 40th edition of the sevens.
The matches are expected to commence at 8.00 a.m.
