The pioneer inter-club six-a-side tournament in Sri Lanka, BRC Sixes 2016 will be revived after a lapse of 20 years on November 12th and 13th as the official tournament launch was held at Burgher Recreation Club (BRC) premises on Friday evening.
The inaugural BRC sixes was held in 1969 and grew to be a much looked forward cricket tournament that attracted several thousands of spectators every year. The tournament was last played in 1996 and was won by BRC in its centenary year under the captaincy of Deepal Madurapperuma.

This year, BRC Sixes 2016 will be played at the BRC grounds and Colts grounds with the participation of the top 16 premier cricket clubs in the country. On the first day, the tournament will be played on a league basis and on day two, the top 8 teams will play in the knockout phase.
16 Clubs – BRC, SSC, NCC, CCC, Tamil Union C & AC, Moors SC, Colts CC, SL Army SC, SL Ports Authority SC, Bloomfield C & AC, Badureliya CC, Chilaw Marians CC, Ragama CC , Galle CC, Saracens CC, Navy SC.
The biggest attraction of the tournament will be the hefty prize money of 1 Million Rupees for the champions while the runner-up will be rewarded with 250,000 Rupees.
The members of BRC will be the Platinum Sponsors and Dialog Axiata PLC, Sri Lanka’s leading telecom service provider will be the Gold Sponsors of the tournament while Vision Care and Litro Gas have come forward as the Silver Sponsors of the tournament.
Asanga Priyadarshana, Head of Business, Mobile-Telecommunications, Dialog Axiata PLC presented the sponsorship cheque on behalf of Dialog.
During the tournament, a special rule will apply to all players – A batsman must retire not out upon reaching a personal score of 31 runs, but may not retire before reaching 31 runs (except for injury). If one of the last pair of batsman is out before the completion of the 5 overs, the retired batsman may return to the crease in order of retirement.
The Wide and No Ball deliveries shall be counted as two extras to the batting team and extra ball shall be bowled. All matches will be played in white-clothing using red leather balls.
