Samaposha U15 All Island Football Championship saw its Colombo regional fixtures happening at Cooray Park and Campbell Park with Hameed Al Husseinie College and Gateway College managed to win Boys and Girls categories and qualified for the final round of the tournament.
The Colombo leg saw some heavyweights of school football in Zahira College, Hameed Al Hussienie College and St.Joseph’s College battling for that one spot up for grabs.

After an intense preliminary round matches, Zahira College, Arethusa College, Hameed Al Husseinie College, Royal College, St. Joseph’s College, Gateway College, Thurstan College and Hamza College broke their way into the quarters.
In the quarter final stage Hameed Al Husseinie College met Royal College in which Hameed Al Husseinie College breezed past the boys in blue and gold by beating them 3-0.
The second quarter final saw Arethusa College taking on Zahira College. Zahira College had to work hard for the win as they edged out their oppositions by scoring just a goal as the match ended 1-0.
Another favourites coming into the leg, St.Joseph’s College made no mistakes by beating Gateway College 1-0 and progressed into the semis facing Hameed Al Husseinie College.
The last quarter final match saw a grueling contest between boys from Thurstan and Hamza Colleges.
Both teams couldn’t find a way past each other as the match went into penalties for the settlement. It was Thurstan College who had the nerves to come up victorious in the end winning the shootout 2-0.
The semifinals saw Hameed Al Husseinie College playing against St. Joseph’s College while Zahira College facing Thurstan College.

Zahira suffered a shock loss in the semis losing to Thurstan College 3-2 on penalties. Despite going 1-0 down in the second half, Thurstan College fought their way to score in the last minute of the game marred by off side controversy.
With having involved in the penalty shootout in the quarters, Thurstan showed better composure as they eliminated Zahira out of the contest.
On the other hand, Hameed Al Husseinie College continued its merry way as they comfortably beat St. Joseph’s College to enter into the semis.
Hameed Al Husseinie clinched the spot to participate in the final round of the U15 tournament by comprehensively beating Thurstan College 3-0. It was a dominant display from the boys from Kotahena as they showed a wonderful display of football and rightfully were crowned as the winners.
On the other hand, St.Joseph’s managed to beat Zahira 1-0 to win the third place.
In the girls’ category, Gateway College Colombo surpassed Vishaka College Colombo to go through to the final round of the championship.
