Western Province and North Central Province notched up wins against Southern Province and Central Province respectively in the 1st round of games of the Women’s Provincial T20 Championship held at the Colts Cricket Club Grounds earlier today.
Western Province vs Southern Province
Western Province won the toss and took first lease of the wicket however their batters never really got things going as they stuttered to 103/8 in 20 overs. Nipuni Hansika and Harshitha Madavi made most of the runs for Western with Chandima Gunaratne bowling a tight spell for the Southerners to restrict their counterparts.
Chasing a below par total, Southern’s batting never really picked up any momentum as they fell short by just 9 runs, thereby giving Western a win which could prove vital for them to qualify to the finals.

North Central Province vs Central Province
After winning the toss and batting 1st North Central, led by Sri Lanka all-rounder Ama Kanchana, managed 117 in their 20 overs. Kanchana batting splendidly to make 64 runs whileDilani Manodara made 42 runs in support.
Requiring just over 30 runs in their last 5 overs to notch up a win, Central’s batter panicked and eventually fell short by 7 runs.
