24 schools will compete for the 2016 Sri Lanka Schools U19 DIV-1 Football Championship, organized by Sri Lanka Schools Football Federation.
In the preliminary round all 24 teams are categorized into 4 groups of 6 teams. This round is played under league basis.
All the teams have to play with rest of 5 teams in their group. At the end of the preliminary round the top two teams from each group will go into a Super 8 round.
Defending champions Zahira College Colombo is in Group C , and the last year’s runner-up, St. Mary’s College Negombo is in group B along with Hameed Al Husseinie College.
Newly promoted Kingswood College, Kandy and Isipathana College Colombo are in Group D.
Group A has two power-houses in Maris Stella College and St.Peter’s College.
