MAS Holdings dominated the fourth day of the Mercantile Services Basketball League 2016 as both their teams won their respective encounters.
Nations Trust Bank `B` v MAS Holdings Blacks
The first match for the day for D division was played at the Hendry Pedris Stadium courts. Nations Trust Bank trailed by three points into half-time as the score board read 23-26.
Both teams settled in as the second half was witnessed with good minutes of basketball played around. Nations Trust Bank scored twenty-seven points in the second half while their counterparts scored twenty-eight points.
Jayaratne and Weerasinghe scored 12 & 13 points respectively for Nations Trust Bank. Fernando top scored in the game adding fourteen points for MAS Blacks followed by eight points by Kavisha.
The game saw a two-point victory for MAS Holdings Black as the score board read 54-52.
Dialog Axiata v MAS Holdings Red
The B Division clash between Dialog Axiata v MAS Holdings Red was played at the same venue. Dialog Axiata got on to a bad start as they trailed the game eight points into half time. The scores were 23-18.
Even though Dialog Axiata did make inroads into the game and scored twenty-three points in the second half the early leakage of points haunted them towards the end. MAS Holdings Red added thirty-three points during the second half.
MAS Holdings Red skipper Andrew Alphonsus top scored in the game scoring twenty-four points followed by eighteen points from Sundaralingam. Kapil Dev managed nine points for Dialog Axiata while Ravi Wickramasinghe added six points.
MAS Holdings maintaining the lead throughout the game ended the game for the final whistle as the score board read 59-41.
Union Bank v Softlogic Group
The second match of the D division was played at the Otters Aquatic Club. Union led the game by fourteen points comfortably going into half time as the scoreboard read 38-24.
Softlogic Group only added twenty points for the entire second half while Union Bank cruised away adding thirty-four points in reply.
Shenal top scored in the game scoring twenty-five points for Union Bank while Perera added ten points. Skipper Wijendra chipped in with ten points. Kulatunga scored ten points for Softlogic Group while Dushan added eight points.
It was a convincing victory for Union Bank as the final score card read 72-44 at full time.
LB Finance v Kanrich Finance
The C Division clash between the two finance companies was played at Otters Aquatic Club. Even though it was a ding-dong battle between the two, Kanrich Finance shifted the momentum towards them as they went on to win the game by ten points.
Sarinda did most of the scoring for LB Finance as he scored thirty-one points while Fernando and Suren chipped in with thirteen and six points respectively. It was a complete team performance from Kanrich Finance as Wijesinghe scored nineteen points together with Rajapakse who scored thirteen points. Perera scored twelve points.
The full time score card read 58-69.
