Another exciting day of rugby in the Kandy leg of the All Island U18 tournament concluded today at the Pallekalle Rugby Grounds earlier in the evening. The first match was scheduled to be between Trinity vs St.Sylvester’s and Kingswood and St.Anthony were to lock horns with Vidyartha and Maliyadeva at the same venue.

Trinity however got a walk over due to the Sylvestian team not showing up on the grounds to play the game as scheduled. Trinity, with this walk over now have 2 victories in their group which includes St. Anthony’s and Maliyadeva.

Kingswood thumped Vidyartha in their fixture by 26 points to nil. The points for Kingswood came through 4 Tries and 3 Conversions. They played hard, fast running rugby they are known for from the start of play. The first try came under the posts when their center Mohommed Rahuman scored a rather easily side stepping the defender from a ball that he received from the ruck. Asiri Senevirathna added the extras. (0700) The second try came soon after the 10 min mark when Janitha Dilshan touched down in the left corner of the field. Asiri Senevirathna who had his kicking game on target extended their lead to 1400. This was the score which stood at half time.

After the break Ruchira Ekanayaka and Shanuka Chaviska scored in quick succession which were results of mainly their pack and scrum half giving out quick ball to the wings. Asiri Senevirathna converted only one of the two tries scored making it 2600 at the final whistle.

St.Anthony’s took on Maliyadeva in their group fixture later that evening. The Antonians won the game quite easily although they were given a hard time in the first 15 mins of the game. The score however read 33 points to 14 at the end of 40 mins of play. The 33 points of the Antonians came through 5 Tries and 4 Conversions while the Maliyadeva’s 14 points were due to 2 Tries, a conversion and a sole penalty. The Antonians unlike the Kingswoodian opted to play through their big lads in the pack after initially trying to outrun the Maliyadeva players, which bore results at the end of the day.
