U23 Cricket – Laudable chase assist Negombo & NCC to victory

Negombo CC were made to work hard in their chase against Navy SC eventually winning by 4 wickets while NCC made easy work of the target set by Tamil Union, winning by 8 wickets in the two concluded games in the Under23 Division 1 T20 tournament.

Navy vs Negombo CC

Batting first Navy SC were bowled out for just 124 in 19.3 overs as Negombo CC produced decent bowling and fielding effort. Pasindu De Silva was the pick of the bowlers picking 4/17 for Negombo CC while Denon Fernando bagged 3/16 and Praveen Dilanka 2/29.

Kusal Adussuriya was the only batsman to get over the thirty run mark for Navy as he managed 31 while Thushara Samarakoon played a vital innings of 24.

In reply Negombo CC were made to work hard even though they were chasing a below par 125. 36 from Kavin Bandara and an unbeaten 31 from Uvin Bandara helped Negombo clinch the game with 4 wickets remaining.

Tamil Union vs NCC

Game number two of the game saw NCC triumph against Tamil Union with ease, winning by 8 wickets. Batting First Tamil Union were restricted to 127 in 20 overs.  Dineth Thimodya made more than half of Tamil Unions runs, top scoring with 67 while Chamika Karunarathne made a timely 21 for the visitors.

Ravindu Tillakerathne was the star with the ball for NCC, picking up 5/30 while Sandun Sampath bagged 2/12 for the hosts.

NCC did not break a sweat in their chase reaching the target of 128 for the loss of just 2 wickets. Niroshan Dickwella was the top scorer for NCC in their chase managing 49 while Lahiru Udara made a match winning 30 to guide the host to victory.
