Lahiru Kumara of Trinity College took a match bag of 11 wickets to help Sri Lanka U19 to register a convincing 7-wicket victory over England U19’s at Northampton.

Play resumed on the third day with the home side at 24 for 1. Olly Westbury and John Hankins put up a half century stand for the second wicket before Hankins was dismissed by Praveen Jayawickrama. The only batsman who looked to be in control was Westbury but he was run out smartly by Jehan Daniel for a well made 40 runs.

England were in trouble at 3 for 89 and it did not get any better for them. Lahiru Kumara and Praveen Jayawickrama bowled in tandem while England fell on their knees. George Bartlett, Ollie Pope and Aaron Beard got into twenties but they weren’t allowed to build partnerships by the Lankan bowling attack.

Lahiru Kumara completed his ten wicket haul by dismissing Josh McCoy for a duck and he went on to take the last wicket to clean up England for just 192. Kumara ended with figures of 4 for 52 and with a match bag of 11 for 134.

Lankans came on to bat with an easy target of 94 runs to win the match. Their intentions were clear as they went hard at the English bowling. Jayalath missed out once again in this innings but Avishka Fernando and Charith Asalanka got them closer to target. It only took 10.2 overs for the visitors to reach the target and they did with 7 wickets in hand.
