Rumesh Buddhika to lead Sri Lanka Development Squad

Former Mahinda College and Sri Lanka U19s batsman from Galle CC, Rumesh Buddhika will lead a 15-member Sri Lanka Development Squad for a tour to South Africa.

The stylish left-handed batsman has played 52 first-class matches and has scored over 3500 runs at an average of 44.33. The team comprises of 8 batsmen, 4 fast-bowlers and 3 spinners.

From the squad, only Akila Dananjaya has represented Sri Lanka when he played the ICC World T20 in 2012 where Sri Lanka became runners-up under Mahela Jayawardene’s leadership.

The squad will play be engaged in a Youth Triangular series with two South African emerging teams and will be playing at least 6 games, if selected for the final 7 one-day matches. After that, the young Lankan outfit will play 2 unofficial Test matches with the South African Emerging Squad.

The team is coached by renowned batting maestro, Sumithra Warnakulasooriya.
