Tuskers emerge champions of the Sri Lanka Premier Tennis League 2016

The Sri Lanka Premier Tennis League 2016 was held over the course of 4 days with the final day falling on the 3rd of July at the Queens Club tennis courts.

This tournament was unique compared to most tennis tournaments as it not only showcased the talent of the youth but also that of the more senior players of the nation as the tournament allowed both age categories to mix up and play together.

The first day began with the SLT Tuskers playing against the Cargills Eagles in which the SLT Tuskers emerged victorious winning 29 matches against the Eagles. Soon after, the Crown Sharks played against the NSB Jaguars and emerged victorious winning 30 matches.

The second day began with the SLT Tuskers facing off against the NSB Jaguars and the Tuskers bested the Jaguars by winning 30 matches. The Cargills Eagles played against the Crown Sharks on the same day and beat the Sharks by winning 28 matches.

The NSB Jaguars faced the Cargills Eagles on the third day and the Jaguars beat the Eagles with a close margin of 20 matches won. This was followed by the Crown Sharks playing against the SLT Tuskers in which the Crown Sharks emerged victorious with 25 wins.

The fourth and final day gave an opportunity for the SLT Tuskers to prove themselves as they once again faced the Crown Sharks and this time the tables were turned as the SLT Tuskers emerged victorious.

The first set of matches for the day were the men’s single, Nishangan against Dineshkanthan followed by the women’s single where Amritha faced off against Anika. This was followed by the junior boys’ singles match where Avindra played against Vibuda. The match to follow was one of most interest as it was a doubles match with Rukmal and Ganesh taking on Sohan and Chammika and the final match for the day was the girls’ doubles of Amritha and Shalini against Anika and Janeli of the Sharks.

The SLT Tuskers became the overall champions of the tournament with a total of 79 wins and the Crown Sharks came in a close 2nd with 76 wins while the Eagles and Jaguars came in 3rd and 4th with 62 wins and 49 wins respectively.
