Buckingham Palace will be the venue for a friendly between two of the oldest amateur clubs in England as part of the Football Association’s 150th anniversary celebrations.

Civil Service FC and Polytechnic FC will be the two honoured teams to have the privilege of playing within the royal premises after Prince William who is the president of the FA received the Queen’s permission.

The match is scheduled for October 7th and Tony Stones, the Wembley groundsman has been given the task to create a pitch.

Civil Service FC was founded in 1863 while their opponents were founded in 1875. 150 volunteers will be presented with medals by Prince William to pay tribute to over 400,000 volunteers who help organise football matches in England.

Civil Service FC are the only surviving club from the 11 which founded the FA in the Freemasons’ Tavern in 1863 and later drew up the original laws of association football.
