Some great comeback victories in the past week, especially by Royal who put in a stellar performance against St. Peter’s College. Here is a look at the dream team for week 6.
The big man made a few yards and had some good ball carries which made a big impact for the school by the sea. He has improved in the front binding as well.
He had a poor start with a knock-on and then a poor line-out throw, but he came back strong in the second quarter, showing consistency in the throws and open play. He is not the first choice hooker for the Royalists but he delivered well when the opportunity was given to him.
He started at loose but here he is at tight head. Rahal showed some great strength for the Peterites, bulldozing his way through to a try. Despites the team collapsing in the second half he made a great impact for the visitors.
The Thomian overshadowed the display by St. Anthony’s lock Mohamed Shabeer. Mack has been solid this season and played so well in the breakdowns and set-pieces.
The tallest man in the field for the Greens, he was outstanding against Wesley as he played to his potential and also scored a stunning try.
Probably the player of the match on Saturday. Shaniv perhaps played his best game this season and scored a superb try too. Ferocious in the breakdowns he was helpful in the lineouts too.
Played at no8 but I’ve moved him to no7 because he is better than his size suggests. Very mobile and gained some important meters. Ball controlling under a poor ground conditions was excellent too.
He maintained a never say die attitude till the 80th minute and played as a vital role against St. Peter’s. Very good at the back of the scrum. He also, interestingly, enjoyed shifting places with Ashok Wijekumar to feed the scrum as a half back.
What a performance by Ashok, his game awareness and management is one of the best. He marshalled his forwards and backs so well and scored a deserving try. Shenal Silva of S. Thomas’ and Avishka Lee of Wesley too played well.
Played center but I’ve moved him to 10. He reads the game so well and has grown a lot as a player when compared to earlier in the season where he played a bit of a selfish game. He is also a good place kicker and is currently the second highest points scorer with 54 points just behind Samuel Maduwantha’s 66 points.
Made Wesley’s life hard at the Royal Complex. He is fascinating to watch when he runs with the ball and was never selfish. Has a great understanding with his full back Gayan Wickramarathne. Apart from scoring a try he made two brilliant off loads to his full back, who scored twice.
He led the team well showing great control and composure for the Greens. His ball handling and running angles were exceptional. A team player who understands his players’ strengths and how to use it.
Last week he played at full back, perhaps that’s the best place for his school, moving skipper Sandesh to 13. Scored two tries; one was a scintillating 80m run. But his discipline is an issue as he was yellow carded also in the previous game. Moreover, his game awareness needs to improve. Thanuja Maduranga also played well for Science College.
Two tries against Eagles and this man is the leading try scorer in the league as he has scored 9 tries now. It’s a treat to watch him running. Although he steps with both feet, his left steps are more lethal. If you let him run one on one he will probably win 9/10.
He was the savior for Science College as he made some lovely clearances inside the red zone. He was in the Sri Lanka U20 sevens squad. He was brilliant last year and now he has got into form as the season moves to the business end.
