The International Cricket Council (ICC) has denied reports of Sri Lanka Cricket asking them for reimbursement for the costs incurred to help Kusal Perera overturn a provisional suspension from international cricket.
“The ICC can confirm that it has not received any request for compensation from SLC or MrPerera and it has not agreed to any reimbursement.” the ICC confirmed on Twitter.
Hours before the official statement from ICC, Sri Lanka Cricket Secretary, Mohan De Silva said, “The ICC has agreed to compensate us, but there is nothing in writing. In any case we will be making an appeal for that. I’m quite confident that they will oblige us.”
Last week Thilanga Sumathipala, Sri Lanka Cricket President mentioned that close to 13 million rupees (USD 92,000) was spent on the lawsuit as they had to spend money on various tests, including polygraph and urine tests. The board also had to remunerate Morgan Sports Law firm for their services.
The findings of the WADA accredited Qatar-based lab, that had originally indicted Perera, were subsequently deemed unsustainable for scientific and technical reasons by an independent expert hired by the sport’s governing body.
Kusal resumed training last Friday after six months and will most probably tour England and Ireland for the ODIs.
