The 54th Junior National Sports Festival, organized by the Sri Lanka Athletics Association, is being worked off at the Diyagama Mahinda Rajapakse Stadium from the 12th – the 15th of May.
The event got off to a dazzling start with four meet records, including a Sri Lanka record in the Girls U20 Pole vault event, tumbling on Day 1. WGHSK Dharmaratna from A Rathnayaka Central College, Walala achieved a final performance of 3.34M in the pole vault event giving her the honour of becoming the first national record breaker in this years’ event, The three new meet records were set by LPG Dhananjaya (St Joseph Vaz College – Wennapuwa) who achieved 15.78M in U20 Boys triple jump, W.M Niyomal (Anuradhapura DAA) who achieved 34.10M in the Boys U20 Hammer throw and PKL Prabashana (Sri Lanka Army) who achieved 36.44M in the Boys U23 Hammer throw event.

Day 1 of the games (12th May) saw 16 finals, spanning across all age groups, being worked off. Athletes from across the Island will compete in their respective disciplines in the upcoming three days.
