Colombo. Tuesday 18 June 2013. Commercial Credit emerged victorious at the ‘A’ Division Mercantile Services Basketball Tournament held at the Otters Courts last Friday, 14 June 2013.
Meeting Union Assurance at the title encounter, Commercial Credit beat them with a convincing margin of 63 points to 53.
Commercial Credit enjoyed a winning streak during the week when they also won the ‘B’ Division Mercantile Services Table Tennis tournament beating Singer Sri Lanka, three games to one, at the St. Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia Sports Complex.
The Commercial Credit Basket Ball Team has had a winning run ever since it beat LB Finance to win the ‘D’ Division title in 2011, and then going on to beat SriLankan Airlines to gain the ‘B Division title last year. Promoted to the ‘A’ Division for the 2013 tournament, Commercial Credit is now the overall Basketball Champions.
Coached by Panduka Ranasinghe, the Commercial Credit Basket Ball Team comprises (Captain) Faizal Devananda, (Vice Captain) Manaram Bandara, Harshadewa De Silva, Gayan De Croos, Gayan Meedeniya, Praneeth Udumalagala, Sudesh Ahamed, Sanjeewa Kulumina, Lakshan Perera, Indika Roshan and Ranjith Hettiarachchi. Team Managers are Manoj Fernando and S. P. Niroshan
“Last year we were ‘B’ Division winners and were proud of this achievement. Our morale and determination were very high as we set our sights on clinching the ‘A’ Division title which we did very convincingly this year”, the jubilant members of the winning team affirmed.
