Southern Province and WP North register crucial outright wins

Southern Province and Western Province North recorded the first two outright wins of the SLC Super 19 Provincial Tournament 2016 on Monday.

Southerners completely trounced North Central Province by an innings and 15 runs while Western Province North edged out Uva Province by 6 wickets. The other two matches ended as drawn encounters with the major honours going to Western Province South and Western Province Central over Eastern Province and North Western Province respectively.

Southern Province vs North Central Province

St. Aloysius’ College left-arm spinner Hareen Buddhila picked up 5 for 60 on day two to help Southern Province destroy North Central Province by an innings and 15 runs at Surrey Village grounds in Maggona.

Southern Province opener Amindu Udara failed to reach his century on the first hour but his team posted 343 from their allotted 65 overs. Apart of Udara’s excellent 98, Chathura Milan and Thilan Prasan made 35 each while skipper Navindu Nirmal clobbered 41. Anandian left-arm spinner Asel Sigera picked up 6 wickets for North Central Province.

The North Central Province after being all-out for 147 in the first innings, managed only 181 in their second essay handing a comprehensive victory for the Southerners. Nipun Lakshan and Asel Sigera made identical scores of 44 in a losing cause.

North Central – 147 all out in 57.3 overs: Dasun Senevirathne 38, Asel Sigera 47, Pubudu Bandara 21, Dilum Sudeera 4/37, Thilan Prashan 2/22, Hareen Buddhila 2/37.

Southern – 343 all out in 65 overs: Amindu Udara 98, Navindu Nirmal 41, Kaveesha Dilranga 35, Thilan Prashan 35, Chathura Milan 35, Asel Sigera 6/94, Dasun Senavirathna 2/70.

North Central (2nd inn)– 181 all out in 47.2 overs: Nipun Lakshan 44, Asel Sigera 44, Sahan Ishara 25*, Harin Buddhila 5/60, Dilum Sudheera 2/80.

Western Province North vs Uva Province

Mapa Malinda’s valiant 96 could not prevent Uva Province from suffering a 6-wicket loss at the hands of Western Province North at Wesley College grounds.

 SLC Super U19 – UVA Provice vs WP North 

Uva Province resumed day two from their overnight score of 27 for 1. Mapa Malinda struck 15 fours and 2 sixes during his excellent 153-ball 96 to ensure they reach 225 batting 84.1 overs. Three bowlers namely, Sammu Ashan, Helitha Vithanage and Samitha Ranga picked up 3 scalps each for the winning team.

Chasing 126 runs to win, Dushan Guruge slammed a run-a-ball 55 which included 6 fours and 2 sixes to steer Western Province North to victory. Earlier on day one, St. Joseph’s College all-rounder Jehan Daniel top-scored with 78 for the winners.

Uva – 138 all out in 52.2 overs: Gayana Preethimal 42, Avindu Theekshana 25, Sammu Ashan 3/48, Jehan Daniel 2/30, Samitha Ranga 2/20.

WP North – 238/9 declared in 41.3 overs: Sammu Ashan 58, Jehan Daniel 78, Helitha Vithanage 21, Kavishka Dinesh 3/50, Gayana Preethimal 3/35.

Uva (2nd inn) – 225 all out in 84.1 overs: Mapa Malinda 96, Avindu Theekshana 23, Raveen Yasas 21, Ravindu Sanjana 20, Helitha Vithanage 3/33, Samitha Ranga 3/47, Sammu Ashan 3/64.

WP North (2nd inn) – 126/4 in 25.3 overs: Dushan Guruge 55*, Nipun Sumanasinghe 28, Supun

Western Province Central vs North Western Province

Sri Lanka U19 wicket-keeper batsman and Western Province Central captain Vishad Randika slammed a stunning century to help his side draw their game against North Western Province at Colts grounds.

 SLC Super U19 – NW Province vs WP Central 

After being shot out for 91 and trailing by 142 runs, the Westerners batted for 86 overs in their second innings to avoid a certain defeat. Randika made 118 off 130 balls with 10 fours and 2 sixes while the Peterite left-hander Manelkar De Silva blasted 51 in 88 balls and added 111 runs for the 6th wicket as Western Province North posted 320 on the scoreboard. North Western Province captain and left-arm spinner Damitha Silva grabbed a match bag of 8 wickets.

In the second innings, North Western Province struggled against the spin and pace combination of Vimukthi Kulathunga and Neranjan Wanniarachchi as they lost half of their side to only 32 runs before close of play.

WP Central – 91 all out in 24.5 overs: Sajith Vithanage 13, Sanjula Abeywickrama 13, Pathum Nissanka 14, Damitha Silva 3/8, Wanitha Wanninayake 3/21, Randeer Ranasinghe 2/27, Pasindu Manelka 2/34.

Western Province South vs Eastern Province

Vishwa Chathuranga and Lasith Crosspulle made scintillating centuries on day two in the drawn encounter between Western Province South and Eastern Province played at P. Sara Oval grounds.

Western Province South posted 300 for 4 in 61 overs after Eastern Province were unable to get past their opponent’s first-innings score of 296. De Mazenod College batsman Lasith Crosspulle was the star performer with the bat smashing an unbeaten 103 while the Cambrian opener Vishwa Chathuranga clobbered 135 in the second innings.

WP South – 296 all out in 64.1 overs: Asher Warnakulasuriya 59, Thilan Nimesh 62, Kamil Mishara 46, Nuwanindu Fernando 38, Ravindu Kodituwakku 30, Vishwa Chathuranga 25, Mohamed Rasfas 4/44, Rethnarajah Thenurathan 4/48.
