MAS Active clinched the Singer-Mercantile Knockout Championship 2015/16 beating Commercial Credit by one wicket in a thrilling final played at MCA grounds on Saturday.
MAS Active led by Jehan Mubarak has now secured both league and knockout titles this year. The final commenced at 2.30pm and was limited to a 22-over match due to wet ground conditions. Commercial Credit lost the toss and was asked to bat first.
Commercial Credit managed to score only 128 runs when they were all out in just 19 overs. Left-arm spinner Sachith Pathirana bowled a maximum of 5 overs to scalp a five-wicket haul while left-arm seamer Isuru Udana grabbed 3 wickets. Skipper Upul Tharanga made 28 runs while Kusal Mendis scored a 28-ball 39.
Chasing 129 runs to win, Dilshan Munaweera and TN Sampath played vital knocks of 26 and 22 respectively but their middle-order failed to absorb the pressure. MAS Active were 116 for 9 when Isuru Udana walked out to bat and joined Angelo Perera. The last man smashed 2 consecutive sixes in the 19th over to take his team over the winning line. Angelo Perera remained unbeaten on 32 in 13 balls. Left-arm spinner Chathuranga De Silva scalped 4 wickets for 11 runs.
