At a media briefing held recently, Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed their agreement with the Sri Lanka Tea Board as the main sponsor of the Sri Lanka Cricket team for International matches.
The signing of the agreement took place at the Sri Lanka Tea Board Auditorium, with Minister of Plantation Industries Hon. Mahinda Samarasinghe & Minister of Sports Hon. Mahindananda Aluthgamege exchanging the agreements.
Speaking at the occasion, Minister Samarasinghe thanked the Sports Minister and the Cricket Board for the cooperation and the opportunity given to the Tea Board to come on board to sponsor the Sri Lanka Cricket team. The Minister of Sports thanked the Plantation Industries Minister for coming forward and negotiating a win-win deal for both parties as it has been the first time that a government institute has come forward to sponsor the team.
It was also reviled that the Sri Lanka team will have the Sri Lanka Tea logo as the main logo on international matches and will have it on the sleeves during locally played matches. Sri Lanka Cricket Secretary Nishantha Ranathunga stated that 57% of the matches will be played on foreign soil. The handing over of the first payment was done by the Chairperson of the Sri Lanka Tea Board, Ms. Janaki Kuruppu and was received by the Chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket Mr. Upali Dharmadasa.
