St. Joseph’s College & Thurstan College secured top two places in group B respectively while Isipathana College continued to dominate group C as three ‘Singer Cup’ under 19 division one matches ended on Thursday.


St. Joseph’s College vs Maris Stella College

Malshan Rodrigo starred for the Josephians as they defeated Maris Stella by an innings and 57 runs at Darley Road.

Left-arm spinner Malshan Rodrigo picked up a seven-wicket match bag while debutant, fast-bowler Kavindu Jayatissa scalped two three-wicket hauls for the hosts. Right-handed Malshan stroked an unbeaten half-century while Sri Lanka U19 representative, Jehan Daniel made 49 with the bat as well.

St. Joseph’s – 282/9 declared in 61 overs: Malshan Rodrigo 58*, Jehan Daniel 49, Revan Kelly 38, Sandaruwan Rodrigo 35, Thamindu Preithima 2/27, Sachindu Colomboge 2/48, Ravindu Fernando 2/76.

Maris Stella – 107 all out in 25 overs: Krishan Dushmantha 32, Roshen Fernando 23, Malshan Rodrigo 3/16, Kavindu Jayatissa 3/28, Jehan Daniel 2/39.

Maris Stella (2nd inn) – 118 all out in 37.4 overs: Ravindu Fernando 27, Malshan Rodrigo 4/35, Kavindu Jayatissa 3/26.

Isipathana College vs Holy Cross College

All-rounder Pramod Maduwantha excelled for Isipathana as they beat Holy Cross College by an innings and 142 runs at Surrey Village grounds in Maggona.

Left-handed Pramod Maduwantha scored a brilliant knock of 118 runs in 131 balls and later took an 11-wicket match bag for just 43 runs to guide the boys from Havelock Town to victory.

Sanjula Abeywickrama and Ayana Siriwardana of Isipathana College also stroked centuries in their mammoth total of 385. Sanjula made an unbeaten 105 runs in 126 balls with 13 boundaries and 3 sixes while Ayana Siriwardana reached his ton in just 73 balls, with 8 sixes and 6 fours to his name.

Isipathana – 385/5 declared in 72.1 overs: Pramod Maduwantha 118, Sanjula Abeywickrama 105*, Ayana Siriwardana 100*, Malinda Jayod 3/97.

Holy Cross – 170 all out in 51.5 overs: Umayanga Suwaris 42, Kalana Harendra 39, Shaminda Ravinath 26, Pramod Maduwantha 5/30, Heshan Fernando 3/14.

Holy Cross (2nd inn) – 73 all out in 28.3 overs: Shaminda Ravinath 20, Pasindu Perera 20, Pramod Maduwantha 6/13, Lahiru Dilshan 3/30.

Thurstan College vs Mahanama College

Off-spinner Thushal Madusanka pioneered Thurstan College to a morale-boosting innings and 13-run win over Mahanama College at Kadirana.

The right-arm off-spinner picked up a 12-wicket match bag to dismiss Mahanama under 100 in both innings’. Opener Salinda Samaranayake top-scored with a half-century for the winners.

Mahanama – 96 all out in 31.3 overs: Malindu Madhuranga 36, Niduka Welikala 31, Thushal Madusanka 7/21.

Thurstan – 188/9 in 78.3 overs: Salinda Samaranayake 60, Navod Shehan 38, Pansilu Deshan 29*, Kanishka Gimhan 4/44, Niduka Welikala 4/51.

Mahanama (2nd inn) – 79 all out in 38 overs: Niduka Wellikala 22, Malindu Madhuranga 20, Thushal Madhusanka 5/33, Dilan Madusanka 2/20.
