Mendis the hero as ICBT record first win

ICBT kicked off their Red Bull Campus Cricket World Finals 2015 with a bang as they defeated TUKS, the defending champions from South Africa by 2 wickets in their game worked off in Dehradun, India today (19). 

Skipper Malshan Mendis led from the front for ICBT as he stole the show with an impressive five wicket haul which helped restrict TUKS to a modest 134/8 in their allotted 20 overs after they won the toss and elected to bat first. 

The right arm fast bowler hailing from Moratuwa, captured three key wickets at the top which also included Proteas emerging player Aiden Markram while he returned at the death to add a couple of wickets to end up with top figures of 5/22 in his four overs. 

In reply, former Sri Lanka under 19 player Sadeera Samarawickrama came out all guns blazing as he raced to 23 runs in quick time before he was dismissed. Damith Priyadharshana held the middle order together top scoring with 26, but it was UNM De Silva’s cameo lower down the order that won the game for ICBT and saw a thrilling end to this game. Dustin Melton picked up two wickets for TUKS while Malshan Mendis was named man of the match for his efforts.
