DD pacer looking forward to away game against SRH
The Delhi Daredevils are finally up to winning ways in IPL 2013. Perhaps it was the momentary shift in their home ground or a drastic shift in their fortunes that led to back-to-back wins here in Raipur. In either case, the Daredevils’ cause has been helped by valuable contributions in their ranks in all three departments.
This was best illustrated during their game against the Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday, when a splendid catch by Ben Rohrer was complemented by economical bowling by their bowlers and topped off by a match-winning knock from David Warner.
During a chat with IPLT20.com, DD pacer Morne Morkel, who played a crucial role in restricting KKR under 140, attributed DD’s recent success to the team doing the basics right. The 28-year-old is now looking forward to playing against fellow South African, Dale Steyn, when the rejuvenated Daredevils take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday.
Here are excerpts from Morkel’s interview:
On DD’s back-to-back wins in Raipur
It is nice to have a bit of momentum. And if we try and do our basics as best as possible, we can keep it up. We have got ourselves to blame that we had a low start to the tournament. But I think the most important thing right now is to enjoy and try and play good cricket.
On his sub-six economy rate against KKR
The whole tournament I have been bowling well. It was important for me to stick to the basics and make the most of the conditions and back myself. If I do that, I perform the way I did (against KKR).
Whether he has ever experienced anything like that ball he bowled to Rajat Bhatia, where the stumps remained undisturbed despite the ball grazing them
Actually, I don’t even know about it to be honest (smiles). I will have to go watch the replay. Hopefully, next time things will go my way. You need a little bit of luck, but mostly you create your luck in this game.
On the subject of luck – the new, lucky home ground
Yeah. We have come out here and have had two great games. The Raipur crowd has been unbelievable. It is a great venue, a great stadium and hopefully we can play more matches here.
On the energy in the dressing room
Throughout the tournament, the atmosphere in the dressing room has been positive. We know we didn’t do well in a few areas and we are trying to do better in those. And now we are playing winning cricket and entertaining cricket. You never know what can happen with that – we can even sneak into the playoffs through the back door.
On the next away game against SRH
I am looking forward to it. Dale’s bowling well; he is bowling quickly as well. It’s nice to be able to play against him. He is a beautiful bowler. We hope to get a positive result there.
