The 25th Josephian-Peterite Silver Jubilee Soccer Encounter is ready to kick start on the 23rd of October at the CR&FC grounds.
Mr.Troy Bartlet, Secretary of Sports St.Peter’s College invited Mr.Anthony Pillai CEO Football Federation Sri Lanka to present the welcome speech. He was emphasizing on importance of school football in Sri Lanka.
He stated “I would like to thank the Priests of both schools for how far they’ve come in football. It’s a good sign for me as an administrator in the football federation and also to the world to know that it’s not only the small schools who take football seriously in Sri Lanka.”
He also stated that it’s a great opportunity for these young players to shine and go on to represent Sri Lanka. He concluded by pointing out the responsibility of the media to promote Football in Sri Lanka, it may be the most popular sport in the world but it’s almost the opposite in this island.

Rev. Fr. Trevor Martin went on to speak about the history and present of the battle of the saints. This year there has been major change up in the trophy. The memorial trophy was named after Stanley De Silva who was a soccer great of St Joseph’s College.
From this year onwards the big match will played for a new trophy which was named in remembrance of two great past rectors of these schools, Very Rev. Fr. Joe E Wickramasinghe (St.Peter’s) & Very Rev. Fr. Stanley Abeysekara Challenge Trophy.
Matches will commence from 12.15pm, starting with U13 and followed by U15, Old Boys and finally the big match at 3.45pm. St.Peter’s College will be led by Angelo Perera and his assistant Jerome Kaushal while St Joseph’s College will be captained by Asitha Lakmina Fernando and his assistant Mayukara Perera.
The boys from Bambalapitiya are coached by Isuru Perera who represented St.Peter’s and also the national side. Mr Aruna Sampath is in charge of these youngsters from St.Joseph’s College. Fr.Trevor did not fail to mention the sponsors and contributors who helped to make this occasion a success, the main sponsor being Renown Sports Club under the patron-ship of Chrispin Pieris who is an old Josephian himself.
