D S Smashes 2013 a Badminton tournament which is being organized by the D S Senanayake College Old Boys’ association along with the Badminton Development Foundation will take place at the D S Senanayake indoor sports complex on 15th -19th May 2013.

 

The very first school to organize a Badminton tournament is with the aim of giving more opportunities for the island-wide schools Badminton players to show their talents.

The Old Boys’ Association expects to develop the College badminton standard by hosting a mega event. The tournament which runs for 5 days, will be end on 19th of May with the participation of the honorable Minister of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities, Mr. Wimal Weerawansa and Minister of Agriculture, Agrarian Development, Irrigation, Trade and Environment in Western Provincial Council Udaya Gammanpila at the award ceremony.

The Badminton tournament will be held under 5 age categories, 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19 while both the girls and boys will participate in the mega tournament. Max Wickramarathne group of companies, Sumithra group of companies, Serene Gems have come forward to sponsor the tournament.

“We have received about 350 entries. In the next couple of days we are expecting more and more applications as the under 16 badminton tournament will end today at Bandarawela. After that all the under 16 and 17 age groups will give applications.  We will give a participation certificate to all the  participants. All champions will be given medals and a valuable gift.” Speaking to The Papare Mr Saman Halloluwa commmitte member and the former President of the  Badminton association revealed.
