Ananda College safely through to the semi-finals

Ananda College continued their purple patch beating Prince of Wales College by 67 runs in their under 19 limited-overs tournament quarter-finals encounter played at St. Peter’s grounds on Saturday.

The boys from Maradana won the toss and elected to field first in this all-important encounter. Wicket-keeper batsman Nipun Haggalla top-scored for the Anandians with a fluent 58 while low-order batsman Dinuka Gimhana made a noteworthy contribution of 44 to help his team reach a competitive score of 200. Leg-spinner Suwath Mendis excelled yet again for the Cambrians taking 2 wickets while Anjula Sahan and Dilanka Maduranga shared 4 wickets equally.

Chasing 201 runs to win, the Cambrians crumbled under pressure against the quality spin of Asel Sigera and Sammu Ashan. Left-arm spinner Asel captured 4 for 21 while off-spinner Sammu took 3 scalps for only 13 runs as the boys from Moratuwa were bowled out for only 133 runs. Only three batsmen went past the 20-run mark for the losing team.

Ananda College will now take on St. Sebastian’s College in their semi-final scheduled to take place next week.
