St. Aloysius stun Richmond; St. Peter’s through to the Quarter-Finals

St. Aloysius College, Galle registered a giant-killing 4-wicket win over star-studded Richmond College outfit in their under 19 All-Island Limited Overs Pre-quarter final played at Galle International Stadium on Monday.

After electing to bat first, Richmond College posted a formidable 230 on the board from their allotted 50 overs. Right-handed Pasindu Bimsara top-scored with 79 while Dhananjaya Lakshan chipped in with 37. Niluksha Dinamina and Sajith Sankalpa took 3 wickets apiece.

The Aloysius batsmen perfectly chased down the target with 10 balls to spare. Lakmal Prabashwara, Niluksha Dinamina and Navindu Nirmal pioneered the chase scoring important 40s.

With this win, St. Aloysius College advanced to the quarter-finals where they will take on Nalanda College.

Richmond College – 230/9 in 50 overs: Pasindu Bimsara 79, Dananjaya Lakshan 37, Niluksha Dulmina 3/37, Sajith Sankalpa 3/41.

St. Aloysius College – 233/6 in 48.2 overs: Lakmal Prabashwara 47, Niluksha Dulmina 45, Navindu Nirmal 41, Ashen Bandara 38.


St. Peter’s College vs Gurukula College

A collective middle-order performance helped St. Peter’s College defeat a fighting Gurukula College team by 4 wickets in their under 19 All-Island Limited Overs Tournament Pre-quarter final played at Army Grounds in Mattegoda.

The Peterite skipper won the toss and elected to field first. The boys from Kelaniya notched up 186 before being bowled out in the final over of the innings. Skipper Jayamal Wanniarachchi top-scored with 46 while the Peterite left-arm spin duo of Sadish Pathiranage and Dinal Jayakody shared 5 wickets amongst them.

Chasing 187 runs to win, St. Peter’s College lost wickets at regular intervals but their key batsmen, Lakshina Rodrigo and young Ranmith Jayasena made 49 and 36 respectively to steer the chase while the left-handed Manelkar De Silva took his team over the winning line scoring 28 unbeaten runs.

The high-riding Peterites will now take on the winner of Trinity College vs Lumbini College clash in their quarter-final fixture.

Gurukula College – 186 all out in 49.4 overs: Jayamal Wanniarachchi 46, Tharindu Tharaka 24, Sadeesh Pathiranage 3/45, Dinal Jayakody 2/34.

St. Peters College – 189/6 in 39.3 overs: Lakshina Rodrigo 49, Ranmith Jayasena 36, Manelka De Silva 28*, Tharindu Tharaka 3/34, Jayamal Wanniarachchi 2/46.


Prince of Wales College vs St. Servatius College

Prince of Wales College recorded a massive 130-run victory over St. Servatius College in their under 19 All-Island Limited Overs Tournament 2nd round encounter played at Uyanwatte grounds in Matara.

The visitors after electing to bat first made 224 runs on the board in their allotted 50 overs. The left-handed Suwath Mendis top-scored for the Cambrians scoring 55 valuable runs while Awindu Fernando chipped in with 30 runs. Spinner Chanuka Dilshan picked up 3 wickets to be the best bowler for the hosts.

Chasing 225 runs to win, the home team succumbed to the score board pressure as they were bowled out for a mere 94 runs. Fast-bowler Savindu Peiris was the most impressive bowler taking 3 wickets.

Prince of Wales College will compete for a place in the quarter-finals when they take on red-hot favourites, S. Thomas’ College in their pre-quarter final clash scheduled this week.
