Red Bull Campus Cricket World finals

The Red Bull Campus Cricket World finals will get off ground from 2nd April to 6th April 2013. This was revealed in a media briefing held at the Cinnamon Lake side last evening.

The second stage of the tournament has managed to step up from being a South Asian to a World Series title fight with 6 countries battling it out to become the champions in the world.

Red bull, securing the sponsorship of the event for the second time, makes way for the university students to become the professional cricketers. With the partcipation of Great Britain and Australia, in the second edition of the event, Red bull aims to make the tournament a mega affair in the world.

Subsequent to a hard battle between the best universities across 6 countries, players from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, India, England, Pakistan, and Australia will fight for the Red Bull Campus Cricket World Finals title at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium Colombo.

The University of Moratuwa who defeated the University of Jayawardanapure will represent the host Sri Lankan team which will be lead by Captain Sahan Perera. The Sri Lankan team will be mentored by the Sri Lanka’s T20 captain Dinesh Chandimal.

Speaking to ThePapare, Captain of Bangladesh team stated that “I think this is a very nice tournament. Sri Lanka is a very nice country. I am happy to play this tournament in Sri Lanka. There are some great cricketers in the Sri Lankan Squad. So I think the match against Sri Lanka might get tough. But Bangladesh players are strong mentally and physically. Hopefully tomorrow we will play a good match.”

The media briefing which took place at 8 degrees on the Beira Lake at Cinnamon Lake saw the participation of the captains of the 6 finalist countries. The mega event will be continued to the next year with the participation of many more countries.
