In the latest Tamil Nadu soap opera in which Jayalalitha is the lead star, a group calling themselves Students Federation for Free Eelam in Chennai, getting carried away by the success of eliminating the Sri Lankan cricketers from the Chennai matches, now scream for more blood asking Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad which are franchises owned by Tamils to drop the Sri Lankan players from their sides.
Kumar Sangakkara and Thisara Perera represent Sunrisers with Sangakkara being captain. CSK have already been affected as their players Nuwan Kulasekara and Akila Dananjaya have already been dropped.
They have threatened that in the event that the players are not removed from the teams that they would siege the offices of India Cement and Sun Group which belong to the owners of the franchises.
Elsewhere the Tamil Nadu Assembly seeks a resolution to be adopted by the Central Government of India demanding Eelam for Sri Lankan Tamils and for India to not treat Sri Lanka as a friendly nation. External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid is quoted to have said that while the government was sensitive to Tamil concerns, it won’t accept such demands.
Back home former skipper Arjuna Ranatunga who always lead the fight against Indian dominance in Cricket and the IPLs effects on Sri Lanka cricket, claims he would not have gone for the love of any money to play under such circumstances.
Reports are also circulating that one Sri Lankan players has already withdrawn himself from his franchise.
The Sri Lankan players set to play in the IPL may have to rue their decision to go despite the huge monetary drawbacks because it is obvious that Tamil Nadu is hell bent on causing trouble and the Indian government instead of taking a no-nonsense attitude towards this, has pussy-footed around the issue constantly.
