D S Senanayake beats Royal for hockey title

D S Senanayaka College achieved a great victory defeating Royal College Colombo in the Under 19 Colombo Schools Hockey Tournament, held at the Astroturf this evening. It was an amazing goal at the 14th minute by Abdul Rahaman of DS Senanayaka College to become the champions by a score of 1-0.

Meanwhile Janadhipathi Balika Vidyala defeated Musaeus College to emerge the champion of under 19 girls finals for a goal of 5-0. Imesha Lakshani scored the first goal of the match at the 5th minute and also was brilliant to manage two goals on 27th and 45th minute. Meanwhile Yasitha Prabhani and Anaka Shekaza contributed goals at the 7th and the 10th minute.

The under 15 girls finals were held between Janadhipathi Balika Vidyala and Musaeus College and Janadhipathi girls managed to defeat their counterparts for a score of 2-0. Though Musaeus College posses a golden memory of hockey, they failed in front of the goal keeping of the opposition.  In addition the lasses from under 15 Jandhipathi  Balika Vidyalaya, defeated Sirimawo girls in the semi finals to boot in 1-0.

The under 19 Janadhipathi girls managed to defeat Yasodhara Balika Vidyalaya in their semi finals showing their prowess scoring 4 scorching goals. Yasodhara could not achieve a single goal thanks to the goal keepers of Janadhipathi Vidyalaya.

S. Bari and N. Wedagama of Royal College managed to score goals in the 10th and the 17th minute on under 19 boys’ semi finals to beat Wesley college boys. Moreover Wesley College tasted the defeat in the under 15 semi finals against Thomians as well.

The hockey tournament which had been worked off  over several days, concluded today at the Astroturf hockey complex.
