Premier League round up – Day 1 | Tamil Union make imposing 428

Sachithra Serasinghe smashed a quick-fire 159 while Pulina Tharanga scored his maiden first class ton as Tamil Union scored a formidable 428 for 8 against Navy who were reeling at two for 17 at close on day one in their Premier League match commenced at Welisara yesterday. With the top order failing to make an impact against a weak bowling unit, Serasinghe cashed in with his 9th first class century, his career best innings in just 156 balls, hitting 16 boundaries and a six. The twenty year old former Devananda College cricketer proved that he could fit in as an useful all rounder scoring an unbeaten 101 off 159 balls with 11 boundaries while Suranga Lakmal also contributed with a 43 ball 58 with six boundaries and a six.

Dhanushka Gunathilleke  in his maiden first class ton

 

Left handed bat Dhanushka Gunathilleke scored his maiden first class ton, a masterful 153 with 15 fours and two sixes as SSC finished day one on 371 for the loss of five wickets against Ports Authority in their Premier League cricket match began at NCC grounds yesterday. Gunathilleke also involved with two over hundred run partnerships with opener Tharanga Paranavithana (55) and Kaushal Silva (66) as they piled up runs on a placid wicket.

Moors pile up on Air Force

A brilliant unbeaten 146 with seven sixes and 13 boundaries by Janaka Gunaratne and two half centuries from Indika de Saram (88) and Rajitha Wickramarachchi (99) saw Moors scoring 440 for the loss of seven wickets on day one against Air Force at Moors grounds yesterday. Gunaratne and Wickrmarachchi shared a threatening 224 for the seventh wicket before the latter was run out just one run short of a brilliant century.

Lankan CC notch up 301 against Saracens

Saracens were 16 for no loss at close on day one in reply to Lankan CC’s first innings score of 301 in their Premier League cricket match began at Katunayake yesterday.

Electing to bat first Lankan CC recovered from two for six to score 301 thanks to two half centuries from Oshada Fernnado (69) amnd Dinesh Manjula (64 not out). Right arm paceman Wikum Sanjaya was the pick of the bowler with four for 51.

Chilaw Marians with upper hand vs Galle

Malinga Surappulige claimed three early wickets of Galle CC to give Chilaw Marians the upper hand at the end of the first day’s play in the Premier League that began in Galle yesterday.

Useful contributions by most of the batters helped Marians to reach 290 runs.

Tharindu Kaushal, the leading wicket taker in the current season grabbed yet another five wicket haul for NCC and Mohomed Anaz also claimed 4 wickets as CCC were shot out for 267 runs in their Premier League encounter played at Maitland Crescent yesterday. But NCC lost two wickets cheaply.

Centenarians from Baduraliya

Two half centuries from Digvijay Amaranath (62) and Lasiri Ileperuma (66 not out) saw Baduraliya hitting 264 for nine at close on day one in their Premier League cricket match against Kurunegala YCC that began at Kalutara yesterday.

Amaranath scored 62 runs off 150 deliveries inclusive of ten boundaries while Illeperuma was unbeaten on 66 of 80 deliveries at the end of the day. Prasad Kellepotha picked up four for 64.
