CCC thump down Ragama; NCC survive Galle scare

The week two of the SLC Premier League Tournament 2015/16 ended on Sunday with only a solitary outright win recorded by CCC over Ragama while the other matches ended as drawn encounters.

Due to poor ground conditions, the game between Moors and Saracens did not even got underway while the SSC vs Bloomfield match ended without a result. Galle CC collected invaluable first-innings points against the mighty NCC side while Colts defeated SL Army SC on first-innings as well. Chilaw Marians got the better of the defending champions, SL Ports Authority in their match to claim first-innings points.

Two left-handed batsmen, Minod Bhanuka (SSC) and Rumesh Buddhika (Galle CC) slammed centuries during the weekend while left-arm spinners, Amila Aponso (Ragama), Lakshan Rangika (CCC), Sachith Pathirana (CCC) and Gayan Sirisoma (Galle CC) excelled with the ball.

Ragama vs CCC

Skipper Sachith Pathirana and chinamen bowler, Lakshan Rangika shared 16 wickets equally as CCC defeated Ragama CC by 79 runs at Surrey Village grounds in Maggona.

CCC – 171 all out in 52.5 overs: Nisham Mazahir 53, Hans Fernando 50, Amila Aponso 4/33, Sahan Nanayakkara 2/33.

Ragama – 121 all out in 37.1 overs: Chanaka Wijesinghe 50, Lahiru Milantha 27, Sachith Pathirana 5/35, Lakshan Rangika 4/39.

CCC (2nd inn) – 260 all out in 76.2 overs: Sachith Pathirana 80, Akhila Jayasundara 54, Nisham Mazahir 27, Amila Aponso 6/65.

Ragama (2nd inn) – 231 all out in 90.3 overs: Lahiru Milantha 45, Sameera Zoysa 77, Eranga Rathnayake 73, Sachith Pathirana 3/69, Lakshan Rangika 4/64, Nalin Priyadharshana 2/67.

 

NCC vs Galle

Chasing a massive target of 367 runs to win, NCC were tottering at 113 for 5 at close of play as Galle CC had to be satisfied with only a first-innings win at Galle International Stadium.

Galle – 298 all out in 101.4 overs: Rumesh Budhika 137, Damitha Hunukumbura 55, Chamara Silva 25, Suraj Randiv 27, Tharindu Kaushal 6/104, Anuk Fernando 2/27.

NCC – 136 all out in 39.4 overs: Sandun Weerakkody 46, Angelo Perera 34, Nimesha Gunasinghe 24, Gayan Sirisoma 7/51, Dishan Sandaruwan 2/33.

Galle (2nd inn) – 204/8 declared in 69 overs: Damitha Hunukumbura 28, TN Sampath 23, Nisal Randika 37, Dulash Udayanga 33*, Suraj Randiv 33, Anuk Fernando 4/46, Tharindu Kaushal 4/73.

Colts vs SL Army

No play was possible on day three as Colts went home with only first-innings points against Sri Lanka Army Sports Club at Panagoda.

Army SC – 119 all out in 48.2 overs: Janith Silva 42, Dushan Vimukthi 21, Prabhath Jayasuriya 4/27, Ishan Jayaratne 2/34, Akila Dhananjaya 2/32.

SSC vs Bloomfield

The game between SSC and Bloomfield ended in a high-scoring affair which had no result at SSC grounds.

SSC – 341/9 declared in 86.1 overs: Danushka Gunathilaka 84, Minod Bhanuka 127, Ramesh Mendis 30*, Chamara Kapugedara 29, Lahiru Madusanka 4/69.

Bhanuka Rajapakse and Kasun Vidura stroked half-centuries as Chilaw Marians pocketed first-innings points against Chilaw Marians at FTZ grounds in Katunayake.
