Brilliant knocks by Dilan Jayalath and Shanogeeth Shanmuganathan helped Trinity College, Kandy to record their 4th consecutive outright victory beating D.S.Senanayake College, Colombo by an innings and 36 runs at Asgiriya.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, the hosts’ put up a substantial score of 301 for 6 wickets on the scoreboard before declaring their innings.

Dilan Jayalath was unfortunately dismissed for 97 when he was only 3 runs short of a well-deserved century. Shanogeeth Shanmuganathan and Hasitha Boyagoda made attractive half-tons. Anjana De Silva grabbed 4 wickets for the visitors.

In return, the boys from Colombo were bowled out for 121 runs by the disciplined bowling of the Trinitians. Right-handed Thimila Vidyasekara was the  top scorer for DS scoring 36 while left-arm seamer Rashmika Dilshan claimed a 5-wicket haul for the hosts. 

After being asked to follow-on, D.S Senanayake College were once again down the barrel as they were restricted to only 144. Left-handed Shehzard Ameen slashed a fifty while 2 wickets each were shared among Raveen Sayer, Lahiru Kumara and Rashmika Dilshan.

Trinity (1st inn) – 301/6 declared in 59 overs: Dilan Jayalath 97, Shanogeeth Shanmuganathan 69, Hasitha Boyagoda 51, Lahiru Kumara 23*, Anjana De Silva 4 for 40, Ravin Prabhashwara 2 for 50.

D.S.Senanayaka (1st inn) – 121 all out in 35.1 overs: Thimila Vidyasekara 36, Torin Pitagala 25: 

Rashmika Dilshan 5 for 44, Lahiru Kumara 3 for 20.

D.S.Senanayaka (2nd inn F/O) – 144 all out in 40.3 overs: Shehzard Ameen 53, Thimila Vidyasekara 19, Raveen Sayer 2 for 17, Lahiru Kumara 2 for 25, Rashmika Dilshan 2 for 33.

 

Dharmaraja College vs Dharmapala College

In another match, the first match of the season for Dharmaraja College, Kandy and Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya concluded in Rajans’ favour on Saturday in Kandy.

The toss was won by the visiting and they were dismissed for 158 in 42.2 overs. Sri Lanka U19 poolist, Himasha Liyanage scored an aggressive 98 with fourteen boundaries and two sixes. Skipper, Venuka Galahitiyawa bagged 5 for 30 for the hosts. 

A grinding 74 by Ruchira Pupulewatte paved Dharmaraja College to make 220 in their 1st innings. Mahima Weerakoon took 4 wickets for 44.

Offering another 4 wickets to Venuka Galahitiyawa, Dharmapala College struggled in their 2nd innings batting when the match was stopped due to bad light. Nishan Perera and Dulaj Egodage were the only batsmen to get into double figures when the team total was displayed at 7 down for 35 runs.

The match concluded resulting Dharmaraja College to start off with a comfortable 1st innings win against Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya.

Dharmaraja, Kandy (1st inn) – 220 all out in 73.3 overs: Ruchira Pupulewatte 74, Deshan Gunasinghe 27, Mahima Weerakoon 4 for 44, Nishan Perera 3 for 29.

Dharmapala, Pannipitiya (2nd inn) – 35/7 in 25.2 overs: Nishan Perera 15, Dulaj Egodage 10*,Venuka Galahitiyawa 4 for 7, Ashmitha Rajapaksha 2 for 6.
