SLBA U19 Schools – AIS books place in Quarter Finals

176

The second match of  Group A was played between Asian International School and Colombo International School (Kandy). AIS continuing their good form and registered a victory and securing a slot in the quarter finals. The scoreboard read 72-47 at full time.

AIS won the jump ball at the beginning of the game and made sure they kept the scoreboard ticking.. Even though the Colombo lads drew first blood, CISK kept up the pressure as they scored a couple more points, swishing the nets through mid-range jumpers. AIS of course usually takes a considerable amount of time to settle their nerves and hence their rebounding was way off in the first quarter. CISK, getting the better of them, dominated the quarter while they did make sure to drive in and draw the fouls. CISK lead by two points at the end of the maiden ten minutes.

Once AIS settled down into the game during the second quarter  the fate of the game swapped. Pulling off rebounds and making sure they made good on second chances they eventually squared the game with five minutes to go in the half. Kiran did play good minutes for the CISK outfit but he lacked support to perfectly finish the opportunities he created. AIS scored twenty two points in the remaining minutes while the Kandy lads managed only ten. Neither rebounds nor defence was on point for the CISK outfit and it was a long quarter for them.

Half time – Asian International School – 38 Colombo International School (Kandy) – 28

CISK seemed to lack a proper plan in their offensive structure. If Kiran and Hamza did have support from the rest of the team, the game would have been more lively.Luck wasn’t on the side of the Kandy lads today as Kiran had to walk out due to a hamstring injury. With Kiran no longer in the game, Hamza was left alone to battle.

AIS on the other hand capitalised on each and every loophole and demolished the defense continuing to score freely.

The final six hundred seconds was not much of an challenge for the AIS lads as they were already leading the game by twenty points. Yet they scored another sixteen points in the final quarter and gifted the Kandy boys a humiliating defeat. Taheer Akbrally, Dhamishike Piyasena and Bevan Samuel`s combination was was brilliant and the Kandy lads just could not cope.
