U19 Cricket – Rain mars Tournament opener between Trinity and Maliyadeva

Rain ruined the under 19 division one inter-schools cricket tournament opener between defending champions, Trinity College and Maliyadeva College which ended without a result on Friday at Asgiriya stadium.

Trinity College after opting to bat first managed to put up a commanding score of 321 for 4 declared in 55.3 overs. Number 4 batsman Dilan Jayalath played a superb knock of 106 without being dismissed. His excellent innings contained 15 fours and a mammoth six. 

Openers, Nushan Weerasinghe and Sanogeeth Shanmuganathan stroked 35 and 67 respectively while Shavindu Amarasinghe and Raveen Sayer chipped in with 54 and 40 to help the hosts. 

Left-arm spinner Sanjeevan Priyadarshana, the pick of the bowlers, claimed three of the four wickets that fell.

After being 17 for no loss overnight, Devans commenced their innings on day two but only around three hours of play was possible with the visitors struggling at 101 for 7 when rain brought a premature end to the game. 

Fast-bowler Lahiru Kumara captured three wickets while left-arm seamer Rashmika Dilshan bagged two wickets. 

 

Trinity College – 321/4 declared in 55.3 overs: Nushan Weerasinghe 35, Sanogeeth Shanmuganathan 67, Shavindu Amerasinghe 54, Dilan Jayalath 106*, Raveen Sayer 40, Sanjeevan Priyadarshana 3/60.

Maliyadeva College – 101/7 in 36.2 overs: Damith Perera 21, Dilshan Collure 12*, Lahiru Kumara 3/32 Rashmika Dilshan 2/23, Raveen Sayer 1/20 Duvindu Tillekeratne 1/14.
