U23 Cricket – Tamil Union, CCC, Panadura and SSC register important outright victories

Another set of weekend matches of the Sri Lanka Cricket under 23 division one tournament 2015 ended with comprehensive wins for Tamil Union, CCC, Panadura and SSC. 

After 5 weeks of action, SSC leads group A with 51 points while Moors are closely catching up with 49 points. Tamil Union have accumulated 66 points to lead group B alongside Sri Lanka Ports Authority who have 60 points under their name. 

 

Tamil Union vs Air Force

Tamil Union cruised to their fourth outright victory in the tournament as they beat the struggling Airmen by an innings and 226 runs within two days at Katunayake.

Skipper Pabasara Waduge smashed a swashbuckling 129 for the visitors while spin trio Madushan Ravichandrakumar, Devind Padmanathan and Pulina Tharanga wrecked through Air Force batting twice.

Air Force – 55 all out in 25.2 overs: Lahiru Kumara 20, Madushan Ravichandrakumar 3/4, Devin Padmanathan 3/9, Pulina Tharanga 2/22)

Tamil Union – 388 all out in 79.3 overs: Pabasara Waduge 128, Sithara Gimhan 79, Isuru Buddhika 59, Dineth Thimodya 41, Pulina Tharanga 33, Madushan Ravichandrakumar 25, Sameera Wanigasekera 5/77, Charith Gunatilleke 2/8. 

Air Force (2nd inn) – 107 all out in 31.2 overs: Sanju Jayasekera 26, Charith Gunatilleke 18, Lahiru Kumara 15, Devin Pathmanathan 5/34, Pulina Tharanga 4/36.

 

CCC vs Colts

Colombo Cricket Club recorded the biggest surprise defeat of the week when they beat Colts Cricket Club by 10 wickets at Moors grounds.

Off-spinner Dulanjana Senevirathne, left-arm spinner Shaluka Silva and all-rounders Fabian Fernando and Roshan Anuruddha helped the bottom-languishing team for a well-deserving win. 

Colts -214 all out in 83.1 overs: Priyamal Perera 65, Vishad Randika 54, Avishka Fernando 26, Fabian Fernando 3/54, Shaluka Silva 4/62, Roshan Anuruddha 2/21.

CCC – 367 all out in 90.3 overs: Hashan Dumindu 53, Yashan Samarasinghe 51, Roshan Anuruddha 59, Lisula Lakshan 84, Febian Fernando 62, Chirath Mapatuna 6/145, Heshan Dhanushka 3/84.

Colts (2nd inn) – 174 all out in 69 overs:  Minhaj Jaleel 50, Dulanjana Senevirathna 5/67, Promod Hettiwatta 2/21, Shaluka Silva 3/52.

CCC (2nd inn) – 22 for no loss in 2 overs.

 

Panadura vs Negombo 

Panadura Sports Club scalped a morale-boosting 4-wicket win over Negombo Cricket Club in a nail-biting encounter worked out at Kadirana.

The hosts’ dismal first-innings batting display was the main reason for their defeat.

Negombo – 80 all out in 35.3 overs: Lahiru Wickramasinghe 21, Lahiru Sanjaya 5/29, Roshan Perera 4/32.

Panadura – 275 all out in 76.4 overs: TTCS Fernando 71, Akila Lakshan 75, Dinan Fernando 3/82, Sewwinda Silva 3/70, Lahiru Wickramasinghe 3/36.

Negombo (2nd inn) – 336 all out in 98.1 overs: Lahiru Wickramasinghe 60, Akeel Inham 41, P Dilanka 73, Shanaka Roshan 4/94, Lahiru Sanjaya 3/111.

Panadura (2nd inn) – 142/6 in 37 overs: R Suresh 39, Mohomad Shilmi 35, Pasindu de Silva 2/24.

 

SSC vs Ragama

Defending champions, Sinhalese Sports Club capped off a great performance to beat Ragama Cricket Club by an innings and 6 runs at Surrey grounds in Maggona.

Right-arm off-spinner Ramesh Mendis’ 8-wicket match bag paved the way for the visitors while Sanka Ramesh, Ramesh Mendis and Praveen Fernando slammed half-tons for the winners.

Ragama – 136 all out in 47.2 overs: Jason Perera 44, Charith Fernando 25, Ramesh Mendis 4/32, Binura Fernando 3/35, Sanka Ramesh 2/20.

SSC – 391/9 in 96 overs: Praveen Fernando 71, Charith Asalanka 45, Ramesh Mendis 70, Sanka Ramesh 56,  Kavindu Kulasekera 36, Tharindu Ratnayake 32, Binura Fernando 36, Charith Fernando 2/86, Janith Liyanage 2/45, Supeshala Jayathilake 2/22, Sahan Nanayakkara 2/100.

Ragama (2nd inn) – 249 all out in 81.5 overs: Jason Perera 52, Supeshala Jayathilaka 54, Thilaksha Sumanasiri 41, Ramesh Mendis 4/57, Binura Fernando 2/50.

 

NCC vs SL Ports 

Sri Lanka Ports Authority Cricket Club beat a power-packed Nondescript Cricket Club team on first innings in their rain-affected drawn encounter at Army grounds in Mattegoda.

19-year old Wanindu Hasaranga’s elegant 137 was the biggest highlight of the match.

NCC – 196 all out in 55.2 overs: Milan Abeysekara 56, Saranga Rajaguru 54, Nimesha Gunasinghe 20, Hashan Wimarshana 4/43, Wanindu Hasaranga 2/10.

SL Ports – 402/8 in 104.4 overs: Wanindu Hasaranga 137, Yohan Chanuka 63, Sachin Pieris 43, Sandun Weerakkody 4/100, Ravindu Thilakarathna 4/73.

NCC (2nd inn) – 109/4 in 35 overs: Milan Abeysekara 44.

 

Saracens vs Moratuwa

Saracens Sports Club registered a much-needed first innings win over Moratuwa Sports Club in their drawn match which ended at Moratuwa.

Ex-Peterite Chemila Obeysekara starred with both bat and ball for the visitors while their skipper Duleeka Thissakuttige slammed an unbeaten ton in the 2nd innings.

Saracens – 207 all out in 71.5 overs: Chemila Obeysekara 33, Poorna Aluthge 27, Sajeewa Salgado 76, Vihanga Kalhara 2/46, Thilan Nimesh 4/51, Malinga De Silva 3/67.
