Renown SC came from a goal down to defeat newly promoted Highlanders 3-1 at Rathnapura in the Dialog Champions League Group A clash.

Sandaruwan Galketiya scored at the quarter hour mark but Mohamed Fazal scored before half time to equal the scores. Emmauel Ojinkeya and Shafraz Kaiz added the final two goals late in the match for Renown.

Highlanders came into the match with just one draw from four matches and were in the relegation zone. They needed to come back strongly and the home venue in Rathnapura provided the perfect stage. The hosts took advantage of it as they created early chances and went ahead in the match in the 15th minute when Galketiya scored.

However the experienced Renown SC quickly regrouped and started to dictate terms. Mohamed Fazal equalized in the 30th minute as both sides went into halftime with the scores 1-1.

In the second half Highlanders played well frustrating the visitors and it took Renown until the 72nd minute to score the second goal when Ojinkeya scored. With Highlanders searching for an equalizer Renown relieved the pressure when Kaiz closed out the match with the third goal in the 87th minute.

Army defeat defending champs Solid
