The Kingswood College Old Boys Association Australia Invitational Touch Rugby Sevens will be held in the coming weeks in Melbourne Australia.
Organized for the seventh successive occasion since its inception way back in 2007, the event has become one of the most anticipated events among the Sri Lankan fraternity in Australia as the old stalwarts who had donned the prestigious 1st XV jerseys for their respective alma-maters will make a walk once again to the field for a game of touch rugby.
Kingswood College takes credit in being the founders of the oval game sport in the country moved on to create another remarkable milestone in Australia in the year 2007 when its Old Boys Association went on to initiate the touch rugby tournament. Since then, the event has been the occasion where the past rugby players and families meet and enjoy a day of fellowship within their peers.
Organized in grandeur manner, this year’s event will be held on the 12th of September and will be followed by the Kings Rugby ball which has been an usual occurrence after the conclusion of the rugby tournament.
A considerable number of will participate in the upcoming tournament that will include representations from Wesley College, Isipathana College, Trinity College, Royal College, St. Anthony’s College, S. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia, Dharmaraja College & St. Peter’s College. In addition to the school representation, this year’s tournament will also feature rugby playing clubs such as Atkinsons and Berwick rugby club & Maroons.
There will be four trophies on offer; cup, plate, bowl and shield. This will be the first occasion these silverware has been introduced to the championships providing teams a wider opportunity to get their hands on a title. Another innovation in this year’s tournament will be the inclusion of an exhibition match that will be played against Boxhill Rugby Football Club that will bring in professionalism to the tournament with an opportunity for the rugby alumni to once again take the field for the a legitimate XV’s encounter.
