Even-Stevens in Galle – Mahinda vs. Sri Sumangala

Mahinda College took on Sri Sumangala in an inter school cricket match played in Galle today. The match which started well after the scheduled time ended with both teams on equal terms. 

 

Sumangala taking first lease of the wicket put up 152 runs in their first innings. It was a hard task accumulating runs for Sri Sumangala as they took 82.3 over’s to reach their score. Navodge Vidanagamage was the highest run getter for Sumangala as he contributed with 42 runs while Tharuka Premachandra chipped in with 29 runs. 

In the bowling department Mahinda College left arm spin bowler Chalana de Silva was the main wicket taker ending with figures of 5/42 while Malith Mahela contributed with 4 wickets. 

Mahinda College were placed at 34 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in 6 over’s at the close of play with Chalana de Silva smashing an unbeaten 27* runs.

Rain puts a half to match in Kandana 

Bad weather interfered the opening day’s play in the inter school cricket match between De Mazenod College and St. Alloycius College in Kandana. The match which was programmed to commence at 10am in the morning was halted due to the improbable weather and happened to start at 5.45.

The visiting school who won the toss elected to field first giving the home team to bat while they scored just 1 run in 1.2 overs. The match will be continued tomorrow since 9.45 in the morning.
