U23 Cricket – Navy and Moors register innings victories within two days

Another exciting match day in the SLC under 23 division one tournament ended on Saturday with two producing results. Unexpectedly Navy Sports Club and Moors Sports Club won their matches with one and half days to spare. 

Navy SC vs Air Force SC

Right-arm off spinner Ashan Ranasinghe and left-arm spinner Yohan Soyza shared 14 wickets as Navy SC thrashed Air Force SC by an innings and 105 runs at Welisara. 

Both spinners took 7-wicket match bags to completely annihilate the Airmen. The visitors failed to cross the 100-run mark in either innings after the Sailors posted 249 in their first innings. 

Navy SC – 249 all out in 55 overs: Lahiru Silva 86, Madura Madusanka 43, Lahiru Jayakoody 34, Sanjeewa Wijesinghe 4/26, Gayashan Silva 3/58, Sumedha Dissanayake 2/76.

Air Force SC – 97 all out in 28 overs: Yohan Soyza 4/38, Ashan Ranasinghe 3/46.

Air Force SC (2nd inn) – 47 all out in 20.3 overs: Akash Senarathna 2/15, Ashan Ranasinghe 4/26, Yohan Soyza 3/03. 

 

Moors vs CCC

Moors Sports Club left-arm spinner Sandakan Pathirana took a career-best 16 wickets to dismantle Colombo Cricket Club by an innings and 99 runs at Braybrooke Place. 

The former Anandian took 8 wickets apiece in both innings as the visitors crumbled against quality left-arm spin. Earlier, Moors accumulated 368 on the first day. 

Moors SC – 368 all out 84.3 overs: Shanuka Dulaj 81, Yasoda Lanka 63, Gihan Nimsara 55, Sangeeth Cooray 49, Shaluka Silva 5/126, Fabian Fernando 3/47.

CCC – 140 all out in 33.1 overs:Pramud Hettiawatta 35, Hashan Dumindu 30, Sandakan Pathirana 8/48.

CCC (2nd inn) – 129 all out in 28.1 overs: Roshan Anuruddha 37, Hashan Dumindu 31, Sandakan Pathirana 8/69. 

 

SSC vs Colts

Former Josephian and Sri Lanka ‘A’ team batsman, Priyamal Perera smashed a stunning 143 as Colts recorded a first-innings win over SSC in their drawn encounter which ended at Maitland Place. 

The visitors scored a massive 490 in reply to the hosts’ first innings score of 360. A total of 4 centuries were scored in the entire match. 

SSC – 360 all out in 86.3 overs: Charith Asalanka 126, Minod Banuka 137, Chirath Mapatuna 4/65, Priyamal Perera 2/86.

Colts – 490 all out in 157.1 overs: Pasindu Isira 111, Priyamal Perera 143, Vishad Randika 88, Kavindu Kulasekara 2/62, Sanka Ramesh 2/149, Lakshan Jayasinghe 3/84, Ramesh Mendis 2/55.

SSC (2nd inn) – 112/3 in 14 overs: Minod Banuka 50, Charith Asalanka 36*, MInhaj Jaleel 2/21.

 

Ragama vs Saracens

The high-riding Ragama Cricket Club clinched valuable first-innings points over Saracens Sports Club at Surrey grounds in Maggona. 

Fast-bowler Nuwan Karunrathne and left-arm spinner Amila Aponso took 7 wickets amongst them to defend their first-innings score of 218. Former Peterite Janith Liyanage is unbeaten on 79 at close of play on day 2. 

Ragama – 218 all out in 64.5 overs: Jason Perera 85, Lahiru Milantha 36, Thilaksha Sumanasiri 35, Chemila Obeysekara 6/63.

Saracens – 198 all out in 53.3 overs: Sajeewa Salgadu 35, Ishan Nilaksha 60, Shehan Madusanka 44, Nuwan Karunarathna 4/60, Amila Aponso 3/56.

Ragama (2nd inn) – 183/2 in 50 overs: Lahiru Milantha 46, Janith Liyanage 79*.

 

NCC vs Tamil Union

Tamil Union skipper Pabasara Waduge made a brilliant 174 as they took control of their match against NCC at Maitland Place. 

The visitors lead the game by 116 runs with 2 wickets and a whole day’s of play in hand. 

NCC – 274 all out in 83.5 overs: Nimesha Gunasinghe 99, Ramindu Silva 59, Sandun Weerakkody 54, Pramod Liyanagamage 3/41, Devin Pathmanadan 3/57, Dinuk Wickramanayake 2/49.
