U23 Cricket – Ragama, Moors and NCC post commendable first innings scores

The week three of the SLC under 23 division one tournament got into full swing on Friday as four matches commenced in Colombo and its suburbs apart of Colts vs SSC game which started on Thursday. 

SSC vs Colts

Colts replied superbly thanks to Pasindu Isira’s ton on day two against SSC at Maitland Place. 

Colts commenced day two from their overnight score of 1 for no loss. They batted 92 overs and scored 282 for 5 with former Anandian right-hander Pasindu Isira stroking an elegant 111. Former Josephian all-rounder Priyamal ‘Bullet’ Perera remained unbeaten on 87 at close of play.

SSC – 360 all out in 86.3 overs: Charith Asalanka 126, Minod Banuka 137, Ramesh Mendis 36, Chirath Mapatuna 4/65, Priyamal Perera 2/86.

Colts – 282/5 in 93 overs: Pasindu Isira 111, Priyamal Perera 87*.

 

Ragama vs Saracens

Former Peterite seamer Chemila Obeysekara captured a six-wicket haul to limit the strong Ragama batting lineup to only 218 at Surrey grounds in Maggona. 

Saracens in reply was in trouble at 70 for 5 with Sajeewa Salgadu making a useful 35. Earlier, Ragama opener Jason Perera stroked a fluent 85 while Chemila’s former schoolmate Lahiru Milantha made 36. 

Opening bowling pair of Charith Fernando and Nuwan Karunarathne took 2 wickets apiece for Ragama.

Ragama – 218 all out in 64.5 overs: Jason Perera 85, Lahiru Milantha 36, Thilaksha Sumanasiri 35, Chemila Obeysekara 6/63.

Saracens – 70/5 in 16 overs: Sajeewa Salgadu 35, Charith Fernando 2/14, Nuwan Karunarathna 2/30. 

 

NCC vs Tamil Union

Former Anthonian batsman Nimesha Gunasinghe missed out on his second century as NCC amassed 274 against Tamil Union at NCC grounds. 

Nimesha Gunasinghe was dismissed unfortunately for 99 while off-spinner Dinuk Wickramanayake and left-arm spinner Devind Pathmanathan shared five wickets amongst them. Ramindu Silva and Sandun Weerakkody made half-centuries for the hosts.

NCC – 274 all out in 83.5 overs: Nimesha Gunasinghe 99, Ramindu Silva 59, Sandun Weerakkody 54, Pramod Liyanagamage 3/41, Devind Pathmanadan 3/57, Dinuk Wickramanayake 2/49.

Tamil Union – 8/1 in 4 overs.

 

Moors vs CCC

Former Cambrian all-rounder Shanuka Dulaj top-scored with a cracking 81 as Moors posted 368 against CCC at Braybrooke Place. 

Left-handed Dulaj was assisted by half-centuries by Yashodha Lanka and Gihan Nimsara. Left-arm spinner Shaluka Deemantha captured a five-wicket haul for the visitors while former Josephian fast-bowler Fabian Fernando managed to scalp 3 wickets. CCC were 18 for 1 at stumps. 

Moors SC – 368 all out in 84.3 overs: Shanuka Dulaj 81, Yasoda Lanka 63, Gihan Nimsara 55, Sangeeth Coorey 49, Shaluka Deemantha 5/126, Fabian Fernando 3/47.

CCC – 18/1 in 3 overs.

 

SL Navy vs SL Air Force

23 wickets fell on day one at Welisara in an all-armed forces game between SL Navy SC vs SL Air Force SC as the Sailors took control of the match.

Batting first, Sailors made 249 with Lahiru Silva making a top-score of 86. The Airmen in their first innings was bowled out for only 97 as left-arm spinner Yohan Soysa took 4 wickets. They were in dire straits at 10 for 3 after being asked to follow-on.

Navy SC – 249 all out in 55 overs: Lahiru Silva 86, Madura Madusanka 43, Lahiru Jayakoody 34, Sanjeewa Wijesinghe 4/26, Gayashan Silva 3/58, Sumedha Dissanayake 2/76.

Air Force SC – 97 all out in 28 overs: Yohan Zoysa 4/38, Ashan Ranasinghe 3/46.

Air Force SC (2nd inn) – 10/3 in 5 overs.

 

All five matches will be continued on 22nd Saturday.
