The first leg of Asia U20 sevens series concluded in Johor Bangu, Malaysia. Junior Tuskers could not beat the defending champions Hong Kong. Fulltime score 29 – 15.

During the group game Sri Lanka led 19 – 17 until the last 30 seconds of the game. However, Hong Kong made a try in ample time to break the Tuskers hearts. It was a much intense final as the Lankans played hearts out with only five in the team due to two yellow cards. Chamika Kusal scored two tries along with Nishon Perera’s single try. Hong Kong had too many options with extra men and as a result they won 29 – 15 at the final whistle.
Earlier in the semifinal Sri Lanka had a tough outing with the hosts Malaysia where it was levelled 12 – 12. Buddima Priyarathne of D.S. Senanayake scored the winning try in the extra minute and he has the most tries with 6 under his name. Now the Tuskers will fly to Hong Kong to compete in the second leg of the series which is on the 21st & 22nd August.
Chinese Taipei ended 3rd place while Malaysia in 4th. Thailand and Singapore finished 5th & 6th whilst UAE in 7th and Kazakhstan at the bottom 8th place.
