Day one of Asia U20 sevens series was not an impressive one for the junior Tuskers in Johor Bangu, Malaysia.
The first game of the tournament was played between Sri Lanka and Thailand where the Tuskers won convincingly 31 – 05. Captain Kevin Dixon scored two tries along with Chamika Kusal, Prince Chamara and Supun Dilshan one each.
In the second game Sri Lanka took on the favorites Hong Kong in a very interesting match. Tuskers led 19 – 17 until the last 30 seconds, when Hong Kong stormed in to a try and as a result they won 24 points to 19. Wesley duo Sithum Peiris and Chamika Kusal scored a try each along with the Dons Buddima Piyarathne. The last game of the day was another intense battle where Sri Lanka could have won yet again, but it went to the wire as the game was drawn 19 all.
The Junior Tuskers still have a very good chance to compete in the cup final. First they will take on the UAE tomorrow at 8.16 am SL time in the quarterfinal. The islanders are a formidable enough team to win against UAE hence, they win will scrum against either Malaysia or Thailand in the semifinal.
