The friendly clash between fellow teammates Medhira Samasinghe and Anika Seneviratne took place yesterday for the rights to the girls under 16 singles title of the 23rd Junior National Tennis Tournament on the famous center court of the Sri Lanka Tennis Assosiation.
The more experienced junior fed cup player and reigning champion, Medhira Samarasinghe was able to claim the honor of this title once again by beating Anika in straight sets with no real difficulties at all. Medhira’s tight hold of all her service games and her aggressive game plays had her have dominance right from the start of the match and was able to thrash Anika with a score of 6/1, 6/1.
“I’m very happy with the way I played. It was a good match and I enjoyed playing against Anika, my good friend, and I’m glad to say that there are no hard feelings from her side” Said champion Samarasinghe after the match to ThePapare.com.
The four quarter finals of the boys under 16 age group also took place yesterday and the two semifinals are set for play today, 15th Saturday. U-18 champ Avindra Perera will be taking on Savith Weerasinghe in the first semifinals while Aadavan Pushparaj will face Nuwantha Dissanayake in the other semifinal match.
The girls’ semifinals of the same age category is also scheduled to be played today; In the first semifinals top seed Anika Seneviratne will be playing against third seed Sathi Silva and Bishopian Savini Jayasooriya will take on bottom seed, Prabuddhi Perera.
The Mens’ open singles first round matches are said commence later on today.
